I was traveling some weeks ago and one of the stops was at Gorakhpour, east India, where I was stuck for tow days. At first I was annoyed because I had been already traveling 10 days and all I wanted was to go back home, back to the routine, but as soon as I saw the city all my complains went away: it’s a total chaos, but there are amazing spots full of color and textures for photography.
I ended up exploring the underneath of some big brightest that cross the city from side to side. There was no light down there, and hundreds of ritchawas where stuck in the most disorganized way. En one of those ones was this man, sitting in the middle of the disorder, just steering at the bridge above him and waiting for something to happen. It was a beautiful scene: that used man sitting alone in the middle of the chaos.
I love the fact that he was one of the first persons so smile for the camera in along time.
He did tell me his name, but I wrote in my hand but by the time I was back in my room the transpiration had erased everything. I just call him the pirate.
